John ran for student body president, just for kicks. This is one of his posters.

Mark submitted his mission papers January 27th... should know in 2-3 weeks.

John and his debate partner Zach Barnes continue to dominate varsity public forum debate, as novices.

Mark and his friends built a giant snowman at BYU, whom was later murdered in coldblooded trampling. Glad mark spends his time fruitfully at school.

December Highlights

Emily- has invented her own skates.

Hyrum- Santa drove by in a fire truck a day or two before Christmas and called Hyrum out by name to come and get a stuffed animal from him. It was really fun.

Maygan- Our sweet girl has started to patch again in an effort to see if it will improve her weak eye. She has such a great attitude. She has started basketball practices and has her first game next week.

Christopher- Has been taking a lot of tennis lessons and will start basketball at the Middle School right after the break. He still enjoys jazz band before school and starts debate after the break too.

Julene- I have been learning more about sewing hula practice skirts. Each one gets a little better.

Bryan- Plays a lot of racquet ball with Brent these days. He took 2 weeks off of work to play with us as a family. We hate to see him go back to work but we enjoy the money.

Christmas 2009

Christmas 2009 was very enjoyable. We all went to Duncan and Jane's house and had food, a Christmas program and swimming. Mark, Bryan and Brent played "Bugler's Holiday". It is one of my favorites that I look forward to hearing each year. Next year Mark will be on his mission, so John, Christopher or Nolan will have to step up.
The kids played the pipe bells at Grandma and Grandpa Osborn's house on Christmas Day. It is also a Christmas tradition for us. It is fun for all ages.

The Lahtinens: Duncan, John, Mark and Jane at Grandma and Grandpa Osborn's house on Christmas Day. Note that Mark is now taller than Duncan at 6'2". Mark wins by an inch. John now towers over Jane by 8 inches. John has lost over 20lbs in the past 2 months. He has not been trying to lose weight. I think it is because of his "energizer bunny" schedule. He keeps cramming more into his schedule. Mark finished finals right before the Christmas break. I think he did really well for his first semester at BYU. He got all "A"s and "B"s.

Mark and John play a duet each year. John's duet will have to be with another trumpet player the next two years while Mark is on his mission. Anyone volunteer for the duet?
We enjoyed a great varitey of talent, from hula dancing by Maygan and Emily, the arm pit concert presented by Justin, panio by Allison, Christopher and Nolan on a trumpet duet, and a song sung by Hyrum. It was really fun.

The Nativity was very well presented by Brent and Bryan's children.

Thanksgiving

Loved our trip to Utah. It was so great to see Mark and spend some time with him. He has matured so much. He is more grateful and appreciative. He is in a good place. He is having great experiences at BYU.

The BYU football game was so much fun. It was against University of Utah. John, Mark and Stephanie all sat in the student section and then jumped the wall and ran on to the field at the end of the game. BYU won in over time. Paul and LaDawn snagged tickets from his boss and sat in the 50 yard line seats just below the General Authorities. Duncan and I sat on nose bleed benches with too many Utah fans. After the first quarter, Paul called my cell and said there were two empty seats next to them. We quickly moved to the 50 yard line seats with Paul and LaDawn.
It was great to be back on the BYU campus and in the beautiful stadium with the mountains right there.

We had a great time with Paul's family. They allowed us to invade their home and share their Thanksgiving. We all got to go to the BYU basketball game. Mark, Stephanie, Ryan and John all sat in the student section, but the rest of us got to sit together. BYU won this game too.

Emily (Beautiful) is Three!

Although Emily does not turn 3 until Saturday, Tuesday night she chose to go to Chuck E Cheese's house to celebrate her birthday. This is ironic, since she is deathly afraid of that dumb giant mouse and cries and hides behind the nearest adult when she sees him. She was really cute though, asking if she was three now. We answered her with an enthusiastic "Yes!" Close enough, right? Nobody spill the beans.

She loved each gift and just wanted to stop and play with each of them after unwrapping them. That is a great age . . . except for the fact that our kids seem to get the terrible threes instead of the terrible twos. She is in an OCD phase now (Obsessive Compulsive Dora). I guess feeding her compulsion doesn't help though. All but 1 or 2 of her gifts was Dora themed.

Interesting technique for playing air hockey!

Right now she doesn't want to sit at the table to eat. We have a Dora kid's chair that we bought when Maygan was around this age. For the past couple of weeks she has insisted on sitting in that chair and using the regular kitchen chair as her table. FYI, drinks without lids don't fair too well on padded chairs.

She will answer to Emily still (usually), but if you ask her what her name is, she will introduce herself as Beautiful Osborn. Glad she has a good self esteem. She is pretty much potty trained now too. Woo Hoo! And, you should see the look she can give you, glaring over the top of her glasses. Happy Birthday Emily, we love you!

Let's Get it Started

Hello Osborn Clan . . .

Here is the introductory post for the Osborn extended family blog. First off, I will need all of the addresses of people you would like to be able to view and to edit this blog. It should be pretty easy to use, but I would be happy to give everyone a tutorial.
