The last great thing before heading back to school. John, Ryan, Duncan and Jane all attended the BYU football game. BYU won over University of Washington in a close, nail biting game. LaVell Edwards stadium was sold out. Half time brought all the All American Quarterbacks of BYU who played under LaVell Edwards, from 1967 -2002, back together. It was a great half time celebration and tribute to Coach Edwards. We even got Ryan in a BYU shirt!

The last day of band camp, the Mt Spokane Marching Band performs for the parents and friends. This year, they learned the entire show from beginning to end. That has never been done before at Mt Spokane. John is in the middle, playing Baritone. He has begged for a solo for the last 4 years. James wrote one in for him this year. It is 4 notes =) But he does a heck of a job on his 4 notes and is very grateful for the solo, such as it is.

John had the pleasure of having his wisdom teeth removed this month. He does not remember anything from the time they put him to sleep, until the next day, waking up in his bed at home. He walked, talked, and cracked jokes, but he does not remember any of it.

On a rare P-day, the MTC President took all the American Missionaries out into the city of Lima, and allowed them to be "tourists" for a day. Our family collects sand from all of the places that we travel to. Mark was going to send us some sand home, but if you look close, you will see the beach is made up of round rocks.

Elder Mark Lahtinen in front of the Lima Peru Temple. His last visit to the temple for a while. Mark got assigned to Huanuco Peru on Sep 1, 2010. He is up high in the Andes Mountains. It was a 9 1/2 hour bus ride from Lima. Before leaving the Provo MTC they make all the missionaries get a haircut. Upon arrival at the Peru MTC (they call it the CCM there), the missionaries are all given a buzz cut. Notice Mark's hair. This is after 4 weeks of growth! He has never had his hair so short. Mark is loving his mission and gaining a great appreciation for all that America is, that we take for granted. He is growing so much spiritually too. You can write to him by going to www.missionsite.net/elderlahtinen at the bottom of his blog, click on send a letter with Dear Elder. Type your letter in and click "send". It will send it for free to the Lima Peru East Mission. Check out his pictures and letters that are posted on his blog. He is a great writer.
